AI Anime Paint Style Photo Stylizer

AI & LLM Tools

What is AI Anime Paint Style Photo Stylizer?

Cartoonify applies an anime painting style to photos using AnimeGANv2, a deep learning model trained on anime artwork. The model transforms real photographs into illustrations that look like they were hand-drawn in an anime or manga style — with the characteristic line work, soft shading, and color palette of Japanese animation. The AI runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly, so your photos never leave your device.

How it works

AnimeGANv2 (face_paint style) is a generative adversarial network trained on paired photos and anime artwork. It was converted to ONNX format and runs via ONNX Runtime Web in the browser. On first use, the model (~8MB) downloads and is cached. Subsequent uses are instant. The input image is center-cropped to a square and resized to 512x512 before processing.

Features & Benefits

  • AI model runs entirely in your browser — photos never leave your device
  • Powered by AnimeGANv2 (face_paint style) via ONNX Runtime Web
  • Model is cached after the first download — no re-download on return visits
  • No watermark, no account, no subscription required

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this tool actually do?

It applies an anime painting style to your photo using AnimeGANv2. The result looks like an illustrated or painted version of the image, not a clean vector cartoon. Results vary significantly by photo type.

What photos work best?

Portraits and headshots with a clear subject produce the most coherent results. The model was trained on face painting and may distort complex scenes, landscapes, or non-human subjects.

Why does my output look skewed or distorted?

The model is optimised for faces and portraits. Non-portrait photos, busy backgrounds, and group shots often produce unexpected or distorted output — this is a known limitation of the underlying model.

Why does it take a moment on first use?

The first run downloads the 8 MB AnimeGANv2 model. After that it is cached in your browser and subsequent uses are fast.

What size is the output?

The model outputs a 512×512 PNG. Your image is centre-cropped to a square and resized before processing.
