Background Remover is an AI-powered tool that isolates the main subject in an image and removes the background entirely. Unlike cloud-based alternatives, this tool runs the AI model directly in your browser using WebAssembly — your images never leave your device. The underlying technology uses U²-Net, a deep learning model trained specifically for salient object detection and image matting.

How it works

The AI model (U²-Net) was converted to ONNX (Open Neural Network Exchange) format and runs via ONNX Runtime Web in the browser. On first use, the model downloads (~30MB) and caches in your browser. Subsequent uses are instant. The model predicts a mask for each pixel — pixels above the threshold become transparent, others become the subject.

Images up to 10 MB are supported. Larger images will be downscaled before processing to keep browser memory usage manageable.

Can I use the result commercially?

Yes. You processed the image yourself; the tool applies no watermark and claims no rights over your images.
